Zuni Fetishes
All Pueblo people carve and use fetishes in their ceremonies. The Zuni are best known of these, and are so famous for them in fact that they are copied by non-Pueblo tribes, Anglos, and even foreigners. Genuine Zuni fetishes are prized by collectors worldwide.

Todd Westika turquoise wolf fetish, 1-1/4” high by 2-3/4” long by 1/2” wide, $125. The carved spiny oyster shell arrowhead offering is bound by silver wire. Beautiful materials are a hallmark of Todd's work.
Esteban Najera deer antler frog fetish, 1-3/4” high by 1-1/4” long by 1” wide, $85. This frog resembles the frogs carved on totem poles and feast bowls by the Aleut people.
Michelle Cheama travertine begging puppy fetish, 1-1/2” high by 3/4” long by 3/4” wide, $55. Michelle learned fetish carving from her father, Wilfred.
Veronica Poblano huge natural fluorite bubba frog fetish, 1-1/2” high by 3-1/4” long by 2-1/4” wide, $1200. There are five large cabochons of natural turquoise for raindrops and eyes.
Jovanna Poblano peacock pyrite bird fetish 1-1/2” high by 2-1/4” long by 1-1/8” wide, $300. The offering us a spear-shaped point of sparkly carborundum strung on a necklace of turquoise and amethyst beads.
Ricky Laahty Royston turquoise in rhyolite matrix frog-with-baby fetish, 1-1/4” high by 1-1/2”wide by 1” long, $250. There is a bird carved on the bottom as well.
Dee Edaakie lapis resting bear fetish, 1-1/8” high by 2-1/4” long by 1-3/8” wide, $245. Blue is the cardinal color for this protector of the West.
Carol Martinez magnesite-hematite horse fetish, 1-1/4” high by 1-1/2” long by 3/8” wide, $55. Carol inlaid a hand print on one rump and a black blaze on the face.
Terry Banteah (d) Picasso marble small mouth bass fetish, 1-1/4” high by 1-7/8” long by 3/8” wide, $100.
Dee Edaakie turquoise eagle fetish, 1-7/8” high by 1-3/4’ wide by 1-1/8” long, $200. Dee’s eagles are ever alert.
Ray Tsalate elk antler bunny fetish, 2-1/2” high by 2” long by 1-1/2” wide, $550. This sweet smiling bunny has a pink Japanese coral nose.
Frankie Chattin Zuni stone travertine bear fetish, 2” high by 2-3/4” long by 1/2” wide $300. Frankie gave this bear a beautiful jeweled bundle and a white shell fish.
Todd Westika black marble with Orthoceras fossil double eagle fetish, 2-1/2” high by 5-1/2” long by 1” wide, $250. The fossil makes a natural heart line on each eagle.
Ricky Laahty Zuni sandstone badger fetish, 1” high by 3” long by 2” wide, $125. Ricky seldom identifies his “critters” but this one he said is a badger—with a critter carved underneath!
Veronica Poblano orange alabaster fantasy bird fetish with Sleeping Beauty turquoise and sugilite head, 1" high by 2-1/2" long (branch) by 1-1/2" wide (length of bird), $700. This gorgeous creature sits on a pale angel skin coral branch adorned with natural Cripple Creek and old dark green carved turquoise leaves. Signed with Veronica's silver tag. These are the birds Veronica is famous for.
Dylan Poblano mother-of-pearl caviar spoon/corn maiden fetish, 3-1/8” long by 3/4” wide, $200. A caviar spoon!
Fabian Tsethlikai Picasso marble unicorn fetish, 1-3/4” high by 2” long by 1/2” wide, $75. The horse from the Land of Enchantment.
Jovanna Poblano jet flying bird fetish, 1/4” high by 1-1/2” long by 1” wide, $150. No bejeweled flourishes, just elegant lyrical carving, harking back to grandfather Leo's carvings which seldom even had offerings.
Tyrone Poncho dolomite horse fetish, 1-1/2” high by 2-1/4” long by 1/2” wide, $55. Although decorated with petroglyph sgraffito, you can see the family resemblance to grandfather Dan’s work.
Jovanna Poblano Royston turquoise in rhyolite matrix bear fetish, 1-3/4” high by 3” long by 1/2” wide, $250. He is smiling, with his hishi bead eyes and spiny oyster shell arrowhead offering.
Fabian Tsethlikai dolomite kangaroo fetish, 1-3/4” high by 1-1/2” long by 5/8” wide, $75. Fabian likes to carve the lesser-known Zuni animals.
Roderick Quam textured cedar wood bear fetish, 2” high by 3-1/2” long by 1-1/4” wide, $75. The fish in his mouth is also wood.
Gibbs Othole Acoma jet bat fetish, 1-1/4” high by 2-1/2” wide by 3/8” front-to-back curve, $125. Gibbs carves all the various bat species; this appears to be a flying fox.
Dee Edaakie chrysocolla standing bear fetish, 1-3/4” high by 1” long by 1” wide, $150. Such a beautiful blue!
Chad Quandelacy cowry shell maiden fetish with inset turquoise face, 1-3/4” high by 1-1/4” wide by 1-1/4” long, $100. Chad makes such intricate and elegant maidens.
Todd Westika turquoise buffalo fetish, 1” high by 1-5/8” long by 3/8” wide, $125. The horns are carved mother-of-pearl.
Gibbs Othole Picasso marble razorback hog fetish, 1” high by 1-3/4” long by 3/4” wide, $185. This sweet pig is nowhere near as fearsome as the Arkansas mascot.
Bryston Bowannie white marble pony fetish, 1-3/4” high by 2” long by 1-1/4” wide, $95. My Little Pony!
Loren Tsalabutie dumortierite rearing wolf fetish, 2-3/4” high by 3-3/4” long by 1-1/2” wide, $900. Loren said this stone, which has aluminum and quartz, is extremely hard and difficult to carve. And yet—even the ears are animated!
Veronica Poblano green sea glass bird fetish on a carved danburite leaf, 1/2” high by 1-1/4” long by 5/8” wide, $275. One of Veronica’s “holiday birds”—so festive and beautiful!
Loren Tsalabutie lapis toe-tapping bobcat fetish with coral necklace, 3” high by 2” wide by 1-3/4” long, $450. This animated pose is one Loren’s father Jeff carved occasionally.
Troy Sice variscite double Zuni maidens fetish, 2-3/4” high by 2-1/4” long by 1-1/8” wide, $900. Gorgeous chunk of variscite on a lapis base with multi-stone inlay and maidens standing back-to-back for warmth, one watching the night dances and one stargazing.
Daniel Chattin Sleeping Beauty turquoise corn maiden fetish, 2-3/4” high by 1-1/2” wide by 3/4” long (base), $140. Graceful use of the natural turquoise shape, embellished with carved jet dot necklace and incised corn kernels, wind patterns, and a dragonfly.
Michael Mahooty textured jet bear fetish, 1-1/2” high by 2-1/4” long by 3/4” wide, $95. Michael gave this bear a black lip mother-of-pearl arrowhead that suits him perfectly.
Troy Sice large elk antler dancing bear fetish, 7-1/2” high by 4-1/2” wide by 2” long, $1800. This dancing bear wears a mother-of-pearl corn maiden bolo with Japanese coral tips.
Ray Tsalate elk antler Twins fetish, 4” high by 2-1/2” wide by 1-1/2” long, $1200. A boy and a girl, just as one of Ray’s early mentors had.
Michael Coble, Sr. textured serpentine frog fetish, 1” high by 2” long by 1-3/4” wide, $70. Michael’s circular etchings are evocative of frog skin.
Dee Edaakie peacock pyrite frog fetish, 1 1/4” high by 1 3/4” long, $170. Nice maroon coloring.
Dinah Gasper (mother of Debra and Elroy) soapstone frog fetish, 5/8” high by 2-1/8” long by 1” wide, $95. Inlaid turquoise eyes and nostrils contrast nicely with the mottled black soapstone.
Elroy Gasper (d) jet frog fetish with turquoise raindrops, 1/2” high by 1 3/8” long, circa 2000, $225. Elroy was the son of Peter (d) and Dinah Gasper.
Rickson Kallestewa alabaster mountain lion fetish carving, 2 ¼” high by 5” long, $125. This big cat is waiting beside its food dish.
Ricky Laahty sugar daddy travertine fox with baby fetish, 5/8" high by 3-1/4" long by5/8" wide, $245. Ricky carved a frog on the underneath as well.
