Cochiti Fetish Carvings
Pueblo people have long carved and used stone fetishes in ceremonies. Although the Zuni are best known for these, the carvings of other Pueblo people are equally authentic and collectible. These Cochiti carvings are created of locally found native stones.
Salvador Romero basalt horse fetish, 2-1/4” high by 5-3/4” long by 1” wide, $175. Horses are an uncommon subject for Salvador.
Salvador Romero sandstone curly tail mountain lion fetish, 2-3/4” high by 5-5/8” long by 1-3/8” wide, $150. Tail up on the back, which is traditional; curly, which is Salvador’s invention.
Salvador Romero knobby basalt frog fetish, 1-1/4” high by 2-1/4” long by 1-1/2” wide, $96. This rock shows the movement and solidification of the lava.
Salvador Romero sandstone bobcat fetish, 1-3/4” high by 3-1/4” long by 3/4” wide, $110. This is a typical length for a bobcat tail.
Salvador Romero rhyolite bobcat, 4 1/2” long by 2 3/4” high, $178. A nice chipped arrow point for the bundle.
