Mike Bird-Romero (Ohkay-Owingeh/Taos) sterling silver Pueblo crosses necklace, 27-3/4” long, plus cross pendant, $2295. Center double bar cross is 2-1/4” long; eight side crosses are 1-1/4” long; saucer shaped beads are 1/4” in diameter. Crosses, beads, and hook finding are all handmade by Mike. An antique red whiteheart glass bead anchors the center cross.
Roy Talahaftewa (Hopi) sterling silver tufa cast overlay cross earrings, 1-7/8” long by 3/4” wide, $275. Tufa casting requires the carving of a mold into tufa stone and then pouring in melted silver. You can see Roy's carving marks in both the outer silver frame and the inner darkened cross. Handmade wires are permanently affixed. Roy’s work is extremely hard to get as his production is very limited. |
Ray Tsalate (Zuni) black marble mole pendant on red coral necklace with turquoise accent stone, 19-1/2” long, $300. Mole (protector of the lower regions) measures 1-1/8” long by 3/4” wide.
Vintage Fred Harvey sterling silver bar pin with crossed arrow and eagle badges, stamped edges, repoussé button terminals, and Blue Gem turquoise center stone, 3” long by 3/4” wide at center, $150. Very traditional tourist pin.
Jennifer Curtis (Navajo) hand stamped sterling silver bracelet, 5” end-to-end plus 7/8” gap by 1/4” wide, $300. Jennifer uses heavy gauge silver for her slender cuffs: this is 1/4” by 1/4” square, leaving plenty of room to stamp the sides.
Georgia Quandelacy (d) Silverado jet fetish necklace and earrings strung on jet heishi, 28" long including center bear, $750. Center bear measures 1-1/2" long by 1" high; earring bears measure 1" long by 9/16" high; earrings total length including gold ear wire is 2". Inlaid heart lines are coral. Silverado jet is very shiny and light with occasional surface flaws.
Navajo vintage joclas choker necklace joined by handmade silver beads and finished with handmade silver hook and figure-eight eye, 12” long plus 1/2” shell “corn” center drop, $350. Branch coral separates the turquoise strands from the silver beads. The graduated turquoise heishi ranges from 3/16” to 3/8” in diameter. |
Ray Tsalate carved mother-of-pearl parrot pendant strung on faceted beads of sapphire, emerald, ruby, apatite, and spinel, 24” long, $450. The parrot’s wings and tail are inlaid front and back with coral to indicate feathers, and she is adorned with a real feather tuft. Bird measures 1-5/8” long by 5/8” wide. |
Dyaami Lewis (Laguna) sterling silver traveler’s bracelet, 5-1/2” end-to-end plus 1-1/4” gap, 3/16” wide, $150. Dyaami is son of Laguna’s famed silversmith Greg Lewis, and uses his father’s vintage stamps.
Herbert Ration (Navajo) sterling silver cuff with 17 Mediterranean coral stones, 5” end-to-end plus 1” gap, 3/8” wide, $350. The inside of this heavy gauge silver cuff is stamped with Herbert’s sun-above-rain-cloud design.
Daniel Benally (Navajo) wide chiseled sterling silver cuff with three Carico Lake turquoise stones, 5-3/4” end-to-end plus 1” gap, 1-3/4” wide, $450. The chiseled rows border ridges of soft repoussé, giving this heavy cuff exceptional dimension and depth.
