Zuni Fetishes

Jeff Tsalabutie (d) stichtite standing bear fetish, 1-3/4” high by 1-1/4” long by 1” wide, SOLD. Offering is a necklace of lapis and coral chips. Stichtite this pure was rare even back when Jeff carved this.

 Sherdine Tsattie clear quartz crystal bear fetish, 1-3/4” high by 2-3/4” long by 1-1/4” wide, SOLD. Roly-poly bear has an offering of Mojave turquoise arrowhead tied on with coral beads and a tiny crystal chip shaped like a miniature bear, a natural concretion fetish offering! Sherdine is Loren Tsalabutie’s mother, Jeff Tsalabutie’s widow, Gibbs Othole’s niece, and rarely carves.

Dee Edaakie boulder opal turtle fetish, 1” high by 2” long by 1-1/2” wide, $250. The opal vein is concentrated on the head. Eyes are pale turquoise.

Derrick Kaamaasee textured serpentine dragon fetish, 2-1/2” high by 2-3/4” long by 1-1/4” wide, SOLD. Detailed scales, plates, claws, and wings—this dragon is a work of art.

 Ricky Laahty ocean jasper frog fetish, 1-1/2” high by 1-1/2” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. Ocean jasper is very hard to carve and, sadly, no longer available in the quantities it once was. This frog has lovely translucent green and maroon tones and a tiny crystal vugg on his belly. A fearsome alligator-like critter is carved underneath,

Alice Leekya (d) Zuni stone travertine bear fetish, 1-1/4” high by 2-3/4” long by 1-1/4” wide, SOLD. Double arrowhead offering of abalone and turquoise. So reminiscent of her dad’s work!

Peter (d) and Dinah Gasper ricolite serpentine fox fetish, 1-1/4” high by 4” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. Dinah’s perfectly carved mother-of-pearl arrowhead is the offering.

Edna Leki (d) turquoise frog fetish,1-1/8” high by 1-1/2” long by 7/8” wide, SOLD. Arrowhead offering is beautiful spiny oyster shell that perfectly contrasts with the turquoise.

Andres Quandelacy (d) pipestone mountain lion fetish, 7/8” high by 2” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. Inlaid turquoise heart line. Andres’s lions are among the most graceful ever carved.

Loren Tsalabutie morganite dancing bear fetish, 3-1/8” high by 2” long by 2” wide, SOLD. Is this the coveted white healing bear? Yes. But look closely at the photo: hidden in the depths of the stone are morganite shades of rose and green. Loren gave him a pearl and turquoise necklace strung on coral seed beads because he deserves it!
