Zuni Fetishes
Kendall Shetima (d) large Picasso marble badger fetish, 1-1/2” high by 4-1/2” long by 2-3/4” wide, SOLD. Kendall inlaid a turquoise lightning heart line along the badger’s nape, right where a badger stripe would be.
Everett Quam multi-stone on found quartz corn maiden fetish, 2-1/4” high by 1-1/4” long by 1-1/8” wide, SOLD. The face is azurite-malachite; the corn body is lapis. Everett is the son of Rhoda Quam, and her influence clearly shows in this very rare piece.
Dee Edaakie K-2 stone (azurite crystals in granite) owl fetish, 1-1/4” high by 1-3/4” long by 1/2” wide, $135. Dee gave this hunting owl coral eyes and a carved pen shell beak. The beautiful K-2 stone is rarely seen anymore.
Gibbs Othole sunset jasper wolf fetish, 1” high by 2-1/4” long by 1/2” wide, SOLD. Gibbs gave this bushytail a carved black-lip mother-of-pearl arrowhead offering.
Ricky Laahty natural Kingman turquoise frog fetish, 3/4” high by 1” long by 3/4" wide, SOLD. This Kingman nugget came from unworked stones belonging to Morris Laahty, Ricky’s father.
Harriet Byers Martinez (d) textured jet perched hawk fetish, 2-1/2” high by 1-7/8” long by 1-1/2” wide, SOLD. We rarely see Harriet’s work.
Kenny Chavez blue angelite shark fetish, 3/4” high by 2” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. Of course, the shark has Kenny’s trademark silver eyes.
Dee Edaakie pink Peruvian opal bear fetish, 1-1/4” high by 1-3/4” long by 3/4” wide, $140. Dee gave the bear lapis eyes and left some of the opal’s natural matrix on one side.
Orin Eriacho natural Nutria travertine with crystals bear fetish, 2-1/4” high by 1-3/4” long by 1” wide, SOLD Orin carefully preserved the natural crystals when carving this bear.
Gibbs Othole tiny lepidolite beaver fetish, 3/4” high by 1” long by 1/2” wide, $75. This may be Gibbs’s tiniest beaver ever!
Burt Awelagte yellow jasper buffalo fetish, 1-3/4” high by 3” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. The offering bundle includes turquoise and amber beads.
Ricky Laahty variscite frog fetish, 3/4” high by 7/8” long by 3/4” wide, $175. Ricky carved a bunny rabbit on the underside.
Rosella Lunasee Mexican onyx horse fetish, 1” high by 1-3/4” long by 1/2” wide, SOLD. This horse was scheduled for our equine posting a couple weeks back, but he cleverly escaped the corral.
Derrick Kaamasee textured blue angelite mother-and-baby woodpecker fetish, 1-1/2” high by 1-3/4” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. So sweet!
Herbert Halate textured jet raven fetish, 3/4” high by 3” long by 5/8” wide, $60. The raven carries a turquoise offering symbolizing a piece of the sky.
Vince Chavez Zuni stone travertine resting camel fetish, 1-5/8” high by 2-1/4” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. This is one handsome dromedary!
Ben Kaamasee textured white marble owl fetish, 2” high by 1-3/4” long by 1-1/2” wide, SOLD. There is very little of Ben’s work available.
Burt Awelagte sunset sodalite medicine bear fetish, 1-5/8” high by 2-1/2” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. The amber bead offering contrasts nicely with the dark blue sodalite.
David Chavez sunset dolomite squirrel fetish with textured tail, 7/8” high by 2-1/2” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. David captured the squirrel’s cautious expression perfectly, then gave him his trademark turquoise dot inlay heart line.
Herbert Halate jet mole fetish, 3/4” high by 2-1/2” long by 1-1/8” wide, $85. Inlaid turquoise eyes and dorsal dots decorate this sleek mole.
Gibbs Othole ivory stone calcite standing bear fetish, 1-3/4” high by 1-1/8” long by 7/8” wide, SOLD. Looking off across the tundra …
Ricky Laahty No. 8 turquoise badger fetish with Kingman turquoise bird companion, 1” high by 2-1/4” long by 1-1/4” wide, SOLD. Ricky textured the stone to indicate the badger’s fur and carved a full-body bunny on the underside.

Carolyn Concho Acoma seed pot with fine line detail and hummingbird, dragonfly, butterfly, and ladybug designs, 2” high (2-1/4” to lifted hummingbird wing) by 5-3/4” diameter, SOLD. All creatures have 3-D enhancements, an innovation Carolyn is known for. There is a second 3-D ladybug on the underside. Carolyn is one of the five Lewis sisters, all renowned potters. |
Carolyn Concho Acoma seed pot with fine line and geometric designs and 3-D lizard detail, 1-1/4” high (1-1/2” high to raised 3-D head) by 3-1/4” diameter, SOLD. The bottom shows a 3-D lizard tail emerging from a hole in the pot, another innovation for Carolyn. All seed pots have a hole to prevent their exploding in the firing, but they generally are not part of the design. |
