Zuni Fetishes

Ricky Laahty large native rhyolite bubba frog fetish, 1-1/2” high by 4-1/2” long by 4” wide, SOLD. The stone is knobby—nice to touch and gives a frogskin texture. There is an eagle underneath.

Ricky Laahty natural Teller County, Colorado amazonite frogmates fetish, 1-1/2” high by 1-1/2” long by 1-1/2” wide, $450. Underneath are two ground squirrels—also mates?

Ricky Laahty Brazilian fluorite frog fetish, 5/8” high by 1-1/4” long by 5/8” wide,  SOLD. A nice purple color and a hummingbird on the bottom.

Ricky Laahty gold lip mother-of-pearl leaning frog fetish, 1-3/8” high by 1” long by 3/8” wide,  SOLD. There is a shark carved underneath.

Ricky Laahty Gila wilderness geode frog fetish, 1-7/8” high by 3” long by 1-1/8” wide, $250. There are five frogs—one underneath.

Ricky Laahty natural Burnham turquoise frog fetish, 1/2” high by 1” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. This stone came from Morris Laahty’s unworked stash. Ricky carved a bird underneath.

Ricky Laahty ruby-in-albite frog fetish, 3/8” high by 1-1/8” long by 7/8” wide,  SOLD. Ricky has carved other “ruby-in” stones, but this is a new one for me. Albite is a feldspar mineral and is said to protect against the forces of evil. There is an owl on the underside.

Ricky Laahty pastel unakite frog fetish, 7/8” high by 7/8” long by 1/2” wide,  SOLD. Ricky rarely carves the frogs with hats anymore. This guy is sitting like a Buddha with his hands clasped across his belly. There is a fish carved on the underside.

Ricky Laahty large blue angelite mama-and-baby frog fetish, 2” high by 4-1/2” long by 2-1/4” wide, $850. There is a cockatoo carved underneath.

Ricky Laahty ricolite serpentine mini frog fetish, 3/8” high by 1-1/8” long by 9/16” wide, SOLD. There is a spread-wing butterfly underneath, and, yes, she has eyes!

Ricky Laahty cuprite crystals on quartz bird fetish, 1-1/4” high by 2” long by 1/2” wide, $280. Kent dearly loved sparkly things, and he was always giving Ricky difficult stones to carve. Ricky might say, “impossible.” But he found a downy bird and carved a winged heart on the underside.

Ricky Laahty chocolate serpentine standing frog fetish, 1-1/8” high by 3/4” long by 1/2” wide,  SOLD. Ricky carved a bird underneath.

Ricky Laahty septarian nodule mini frog fetish, 3/4” high by 1-1/8” long by by 3/4” wide,  SOLD. Ricky highlighted all the layers of septarian, gave the froggie bulging eyes, and carved a fish on the underside.

Ricky Laahty white mother-of-pearl “roadkill” frog fetish, 1/4” high by 1-3/8” long, by 5/8” wide, SOLD. Very pure mother-of-pearl, this wide-mouth frog has a water kelpie carved underneath. 

Ricky Laahty green Zuni fluorite frog fetish, 5/8” high by 1” long by 1/2” wide,  SOLD. The fluorite crystal has a natural vug that Ricky used as the frog’s open mouth. There is a bird on the underside.

Ricky Laahty extra-large pink marble frog fetish, 2-1/4” high by 5” long by 4” wide, SOLD.  This bubba frog has a guinea fowl carved on the underside.
