Zuni Fetishes
     All the turquoise carvings in this posting are from the unused stash of Morris Laahty (d), Ricky’s father.

Ricky Laahty pink and green ocean jasper frog fetish, 1-1/4” high by 1-7/8” long by 1-7/8” wide, SOLD. There is a tiny crystal vug (a characteristic of ocean jasper) on the top and Ricky carved a bird on the bottom.

Ricky Laahty blue ocean jasper frog fetish, 3/4” high by 1-1/4” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. Those tiny feet on which this frog perches are hiding a fish carved underneath.

Ricky Laahty natural Burnham turquoise mama-and-baby frog fetish, 3/4” high by 1” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. The turquoise came from Morris Laahty’s stash, Ricky’s late father, one of the Zuni Masters.

Ricky Laahty Zuni travertine frog fetish, 5/8” high by 1-7/8” long by 7/8” wide, SOLD. An elaborate bird is carved on the underside.

Ricky Laahty natural Royston turquoise mini frog fetish, 5/8” high by 3/4” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. Another of Morris’s unworked stones, this one has a fish on the bottom.

Ricky Laahty green spotted ocean jasper frog fetish, 3/4” high by 1-1/4” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. This is one of Ricky’s famous politician frogs and he has a squirrel carved underneath—a squirrelly politician!

Ricky Laahty amethyst druzy frog fetish, 1” high by 1” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. The druzy crystals are so fine it is difficult to tell they are amethyst; I am taking Ricky’s word for it. There is a bird carved underneath.

Ricky Laahty natural Morenci turquoise nugget mini frog fetish from Morris’s bucket, 3/8” high by 1” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. A fish swims underneath.

Ricky Laahty ruby kyanite frog fetish, 3/4” high by 1-1/8” long by 7/8” wide, SOLD. Ruby kyanite comes from India as does ruby fuchsite, but ruby kyanite is much rarer. There is a horse head on the bottom.

Ricky Laahty natural Kingman turquoise flat frog fetish, 1/4” high by 1-3/4” long by 1” wide, $200. Roadkill of the very finest kind, from Morris’s stones, and with a beautiful bird underneath, difficult to discern which is why I rarely photograph the bottoms. The bonus carving is almost just a secret gift for the collector.

Ricky Laahty natural Bisbee turquoise micro frog fetish, 1/4” high by 5/8” long by 1/2” wide, SOLD. The turquoise seam forms the lips of this frog’s mouth. So tiny!—yet Ricky carved a fish underneath.

Ricky Laahty natural Carico Lake turquoise nugget mini frog fetish, 1/2” high by 5/8” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. A baby bird is carved underneath.

Ricky Laahty Sonoran Sunrise mini double frog fetish, 1/4” high by 7/8” long by 3/8” wide, $150. The red cuprite frog sits atop the green chrysocolla frog and a beautiful fish swims underneath.

Ricky Laahty natural Sleeping Beauty turquoise micro frog fetish, 3/8” high by 5/8” long by 1/2” wide, $150. Another frog is carved underneath.

Ricky Laahty ricolite serpentine frog fetish, 5/8” high by 2-1/4” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. Ricolite serpentine comes from the Gila River area in New Mexico.  Ricky carved a bunny underneath.

Ricky Laahty pink and green ocean jasper frog fetish, 1” high by 1-1/4” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. Really great color on this ocean jasper. Ricky carved a bird and flowers underneath.
