Zuni Fetishes

Ricky Laahty Australian chrysoprase long-necked frog fetish, 1-1/4” high by 3” long by 1-1/8” wide, SOLD. Chrysoprase comes in various hues from light yellow-green to deep teal. This one is a beautiful aqua.  Kent called these carvings “howling frogs.”  This one has a deer in foliage on the bottom.

Jimmie Etsate (d) Zuni stone travertine mountain lion/wolf double clan fetish, 1-1/8” high by 3” long by 1/2” wide, SOLD. For the family that loves both cats and dogs.

Ricky Laahty textured ivory stone calcite sitting bear fetish, 1-3/4” high by 1-3/4” long by 3/4” wide, $230. This bear is gazing into the distance and sniffing the air, watching for your approach. Underneath is a pair of eyes, one on each foot.

Loren Tsalabutie wild horse magnesite and hematite badger fetish, 1-1/4” high by 2-3/4” long by 1-1/2” wide, SOLD. The perfect red stone for a directional badger. Bears are the healers but badgers find the medicine.

Ricky Laahty blue chalcedony mama-and-baby frog fetish, 2” high by 2” long by 1-1/2” wide, SOLD. Never have I seen such lovely chalcedony! Ricky carved a leaf into the brown matrix as if the frog were sitting in some leaf litter. The baby is cradled close in front. A full-body bird is carved underneath.

Burt Awelagte sodalite bear fetish, 1-7/8” high by 3” long by 7/8” wide, SOLD. This bear has come roaring out of hibernation.

Ricky Laahty textured Nutria jasper beaver fetish, 1-1/4” high by 2” long by 2” wide, SOLD. The pearly beaver teeth are carved from a natural inclusion in the stone, not carved separately and then glued on. There is a baby protected between the paws underneath and a heart carved on the chest.

Ricky Laahty amethyst crystal wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing fetish, 1-1/4” high by 2-1/4” long by 1-1/2” wide, $250. There is a turtle peering out from his shell on the underside.

Jimmie Etsate (d) textured Zuni stone travertine badger fetish, 1/2” high by 1-3/4” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. Jimmie became known for his clan fetishes and conglomerate carvings like Smoky Bear and Rez trucks, but he carved traditional fetishes also. This one has a traditional arrowhead offering carved of turquoise.

Ricky Laahty big bubba serpentine frog fetish, 1-1/2” high by 3-1/2” long  by 2-1/2” wide, $420. Ricky carved a flock of five different bird profiles on the bottom.

Loren Tsalabutie sodalite bear fetish, 1-3/4” high by 3-1/4” long by 2” wide, SOLD. The arrowhead offering is carved from a chrysocolla shard.

Ricky Laahty lemon-lime fluorite frog mates fetish, 1-1/2” high by 2-1/2” long by 2-1/4” wide, $450. The fluorite has a natural slight color variation between the two frogs, and a third frog rests underneath.
