Zuni Fetishes for Mother's Day
Jeff Tsalabutie (d) natural alunite mountain lion mother and cub fetish, 1-1/4” high by 3” long by 1-1/4” wide, SOLD. The pair are carved from a single stone, not married together. Eyes are coral.
Dee Edaakie lapis corn maiden fetish with abalone tableta, 2” high by 7/8” wide by 1/2” long, SOLD. The cyan flash in the tableta echoes this maiden’s heavenward gaze. All Dee's maidens have full corn bodies, sheltering corn leaves, and sweet faces.
Dee Edaakie lepidolite corn maiden fetish with mother-of-pearl tableta, 2-1/2” high by 1-1/4” wide by 1-1/4” long, SOLD. The tableta has a carved crescent moon, and the maiden sparkles as she would in moonlight.
Dee Edaakie labradorite corn maiden fetish with smoky mother-of-pearl tableta, 1-7/8” high by 1” wide by 3/8” long, SOLD. The carved corn leaves on each side stabilize this slender maiden.
Dee Edaakie Sonoran Sunrise chrysocolla and cuprite corn maiden fetish with pen shell tableta, 2-1/2” high by 1-1/8” wide by 3/4” long, SOLD. Great stone for a corn maiden; too bad that pieces this size are rarely available for carvers.
Troy Sice turquoise corn maiden family fetish, 2-1/8” high by 1-3/4” wide by 7/8” long, $1800. Lapis, sugilite, and coral cabochons, incised blanket patterns and stars decorate these five maidens.
Alonzo Esalio Zuni sandstone maiden fetish, 3” high by 1-1/2” wide by 1/2” long, SOLD. Turquoise eyes and mouth; coral necklace; incised blanket patterns. The only maiden carving by Alonzo that I’ve ever seen.
Dylan Poblano sterling silver corn mother and child fetish, 2-1/8” high by 1” wide (mother), $900, two-piece set. The kneeling mother holds an incised pot on her lap. The mother's support is a silver easel back; the child has a rectangular base.
Ray Tsalate elk antler mountain lion mother-and-cub fetish, 6” high by 5” wide by 3” long, SOLD. This is carved from a single piece of antler except for the curving tails. And look at the inlaid pen shell paw pads! This piece was featured in the opening exhibit of The Zuni Fetish Museum.

Dee Edaakie rainbow fluorite corn maiden fetish with smoky mother-of-pearl tableta, 2-1/4” high by 1-1/4” wide by 3/4” long, SOLD. Amazing colors in this translucent fluorite.
Dee Edaakie mother-of-pearl butterfly corn maiden fetish, 1-1/2” high by 7/8” wide by 1/4” thick, SOLD. Even this tiny girl is stable, thanks to the way Dee carved her beautiful inlaid wings.
Dee Edaakie boulder opal corn maiden fetish with abalone tableta, 2-3/4” high by 1-1/4” wide by 1” long, SOLD. The four-point star in her tableta is a guiding symbol showing the right path forward. There is a wide swath of opal crossing her face and flowing down her body like starlight.
