Zuni Fetishes

Hayes Leekya extra-large Zuni stone travertine buffalo fetish with turquoise horns, 2-1/2” high by 4-1/4” long by 2” wide, SOLD. If the buffalo in Yellowstone look this friendly, it’s no wonder tourists get too close!

Ron Laahty (d) found stone agate corn maiden fetish with turquoise Chaco-style kernel inlay, 2-1/8” high by 7/8” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. Spiritual.

Dee Edaakie silicon eagle fetish, 1-3/4” high by 1-3/4” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. Yes, silicon. Dee never shies away from a difficult carve!

Lloyd Lasiloo white marble medicine bear fetish, 1-3/4” high by 1-3/4” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. The precisely inlaid lapis and turquoise heart line shows his association with his Laiwakete brothers-in-law.

Lorandina Sheche red crinoid limestone badger fetish, 7/8” high by 2-7/8” long by 1-3/8” wide, SOLD. Lorandina gave this badger a pipestone arrowhead offering reinforcing his cardinal color.

Fernando Laiwakete sodalite horse fetish, 1-5/8” high by 1-7/8” long by 3/8” wide, SOLD. Extra fancy horse with an inlaid turquoise heart line and a carved mother-of-pearl bird spirit guide atop his multi-stone wrap.

Bernard Homer, Jr. (d) green sea snail shell wolf fetish, 1” high by 2-3/4” long by 5/8” wide, $190. Thick pearlescent shell makes a lovely white wolf, cardinal color for your directional set.

 Ricky Laahty Sonoran Sunrise frog family fetish, 1-1/4” high by 1-1/8” long by 1-1/8” wide, SOLD. There are three frogs of varying sizes riding on this mama’s back, camouflaged as they are all red cuprite. This is a top quality Sonoran nugget with vibrant red cuprite and green chrysocolla clearly separated by black tenorite.

Russell Shack (d) sgraffito black marble horse fetish, 1-1/2” high by 2” long by 1/2” wide, SOLD. Russell inlaid turquoise dots on the horse’s rump designating this an appaloosa, and etched a handprint (coup symbol) and a bear paw on the flanks.

Leonard Kaskalla dolomite bear fetish, 1-3/8” high by 2-5/8” long by 5/8” wide, $130. This is a sunset canyon bear—his feet are all dark where the sun has already set. Leonard was husband of Lavina Tsikewa and often collaborated on her fetish necklaces.

Lena Boone (d) turquoise eagle fetish, 1-1/4” high by 1-3/4” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. It was Lena who told me that all Zuni bird carvings are eagles unless identifiably another bird, such as owl, roadrunner, or raven. Traditionally there were only eagles carved. Lena’s eagles are  the sweetest!`

Corwin Yamutewa white marble wolf fetish, 1-1/8” high by 2-1/4” long by 1/2” wide, SOLD. Corwin is a firefighter and carves infrequently during fire season, which seems to be always of late. His work is very popular despite its scarcity.

Lorandina Sheche zebra marble wolf fetish, 7/8” high by 2-1/2” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. The offering includes Lorandina’s exquisitely slender mother-of-pearl arrowhead.

Fabian Tsethlikai dolomite howling coyote fetish, 1-1/2” high by 1-5/8” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. What a sweet little pup!

Todd Westika turquoise buffalo fetish, 1” high by 1-1/2” long by 3/8” wide, SOLD. This buffalo has mother-of-pearl horns. Todd is known for his use of fine stones.

Stewart Quandelacy spiny oyster shell medicine bear fetish, 1-3/8” high by 1-5/8” long by 3/8” wide, SOLD. Stewart’s medicine bears are the gold standard.

Russell Shack (d) textured black marble turtle fetish, 1/2” high by 1-1/4” long by 1-1/8” wide, SOLD. Russell loved to work black marble, but he usually kept his inlay to a minimum. This turtle sports turquoise claws and wears a Pueblo sun face with turquoise rays. 

 Troy Sice elk antler maiden fetish, 2-1/2” high by 3/4” long by 3/4” wide, $300. Inlaid cabochons of malachite, coral, turquoise, and lapis grace her manta and skirt.

Chris Sandoval boulder opal wolf fetish, 1” high by 3-1/4” long by 1/2” wide, SOLD. The offering is a carved abalone arrowhead--tied on, not glued—my favorite materials together in one carving.

Aaron and Thelma Sheche (both d) black marble and pipestone wolf mates, 3/4” high by 2” long by 5/8” wide, $300. The perfect memento for newlyweds.

Sandra Quandelacy Sonoran Sunrise double corn maiden fetish, 2-5/8” high by 3/4” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. Each maiden has an inlaid mask, one turquoise and one mother-of-pearl, contrasting beautifully with the dark red Sonoran cuprite.

Hayes Leekya white marble horse fetish, 1-3/4” high by 2-1/2” long by 1” wide, $100. Hayes carves the sweetest horses, so plump and friendly looking. 

Lena Boone (d) variscite bear fetish, 1-1/2” high by 2” long by 3/8” wide, SOLD. This is lovely natural variscite with fissures and pockets where crystals would have formed.
