Zuni Fetishes

Jeff Shetima Sonoran Sunrise buffalo fetish, 4” high by 5” long by 1-1/2” wide (buffalo only; base is modular), SOLD. Jeff left the natural roughness of the chrysocolla edge for the buff’s shaggy mane. The base is a slab of natural Cerrillos turquoise that can be positioned however you want. What a hunk of Sonoran!

Kendall Shetima (d) marble beaver fetish, 1-1/2” high by 2-1/2” long by 1-1/2” wide, SOLD. There is a lightning-shaped heart line of turquoise micro-inlay. Kendall was just beginning to use his uncle Jeff’s micro-inlay technique when he passed.

 Marnella Kucate Tiffany stone (opalized fluorite from the Tiffany Mine, NM) bear fetish c. early 2000s, 1-3/4” high by 3-1/8” long by 1” wide, SOLD. Offering is a carved mother-of-pearl arrowhead. Marnella rarely carves anymore.

Eddington Hannaweeke turquoise protective maiden fetish, 2” high by 1-5/8” long by 3/4” wide, $300. The maiden’s hair encompasses a carved olla and her robe has etchings of her village and dragonflies. An unusual subject for Eddie.

Lynn Quam Australian Koroit opal buffalo fetish, 1-1/4” high by 2-1/4” long by 3/4” wide, $200. The horns are carved mother-of-pearl which echoes the pockets of opal.

Fred Bowannie natural blue chalcedony bear fetish, 1-3/4” high by 1-1/4” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. Chalcedony is valued for its healing properties making it the perfect stone for a healing bear fetish.

Troy Sice elk antler tumbling turtle fetish, 2-3/4” high by 1-3/4” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. The turtle’s shell is rimmed with 18 natural turquoise rain drops which Troy cut and cabbed himself.

Eddington Hannaweeke textured Picasso marble javalina fetish, 1-3/4” high by 2-1/2” long by 7/8” wide, SOLD. Javelinas are native to the American southwest and are much, much cuter than the warthogs with which they are often confused.

Loren Tsalabutie amethyst crystal porcupine fetish, 1-1/4” high by 2” long by 1” wide, $250. A blue-eyed porcupine—how adorable!

Vince Chavez Peruvian blue angelite buffalo fetish, 1-3/4” high by 2-3/4” long by 1-3/4” wide, SOLD. This buffalo is in full tourist season mode, head lowered all the way to the ground.

Ron Laahty (d) Picasso marble stack of turtles fetish, 2” high by 1-1/2” long by 1-1/4” wide, SOLD. This intricate carving was Ron’s invention, and nobody has done it better. 

 Ricky Laahty Royston turquoise in rhyolite matrix turtle fetish with bunny hitchhiker in bas relief, 1-1/2” high by 2” long by 1-1/4” wide, SOLD. There is another bunny hiding underneath.

Loren Tsalabutie turquoise dancing mountain lion fetish, 2-3/4” high by 1-3/4” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. He wears a necklace of coral seed beads, and is perfectly stable.

Dee Edaakie blue angelite playing mountain lion fetish, 7/8” high by 2” long by 1” wide, $200. Beautiful pale blue angelite with matrix patterns showcases this classic cat pose.

Dylan Poblano large red abalone snake fetish, 3/4” high by 4-1/4” long by 3” wide, $1200. The abalone is thick, highly iridescent and set with five blue-violet drusy cabochons. Tiny turquoise bead eyes and a sterling silver tongue make this snake a real charmer.

Brian Yatsattie tagua nut turtle fetish with bas relief hitchhiker frog, 1-1/8” high by 1-3/4” long by 1-5/8” wide, $300. Circa 2002, when tagua nut was all the rage. This vegetable ivory is highly polished with just enough of the shell left to highlight the features.

Veronica Poblano Brazilian fluorite frog fetish, 7/8” high by 1-3/4” long by 1-1/4” wide, $600. Embellished with natural Sleeping Beauty cabochon eyes and rain drops and Veronica’s sterling silver signature tag, and the Poblano grin.
