Zuni Fetishes

Leonard “Old Man” Halate (d) jet buffalo fetish, 1-3/4” high by 3” long by 1-1/4” wide, SOLD. Calling this a buffalo instead of a bull because of the beard, but it could be either. Offering of turquoise chunk, bird claw horns, inlaid coral nostrils, all Leonard hallmarks.

Hayes Leekya early Zuni stone travertine horse fetish, 1-3/4” high by 2-3/4” long by 1-1/8” wide, SOLD. This beautiful pony has turquoise hooves and a gracefully carved mane and tail unlike the simpler incised ones Hayes makes today. 

Eddington Hannaweeke turquoise (Morenci?) frog fetish, 1/2” high by 1” long by 7/8” wide, SOLD. Classic frog from a beautiful piece of turquoise.

Enrike Leekya Salt River serpentine opossum fetish with four carved babies on her back, 1-1/4” high by 3-1/4’” long by 1-1/4” wide, SOLD. The babies have inlaid pen shell eyes and coral noses just like their mama.

Jayne Quam Pakistani marble wolf mates fetish, 5/8” high by 3-1/4” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. This is a perfect gift for engagement or marriage.

Lynn Quam mother-of-pearl double howling coyote fetish, 2-7/8” high by 4” long by 1/2” wide, SOLD. This is a thick piece of gold-lip shell that easily stands on its own.

Alice Leekya Homer (d) Zuni stone travertine wolf fetish, 1-3/4” high by 3-1/2” long by 1-1/4” wide, SOLD. Alice’s wolves are much less common than her bears.

Wilfred Cheama (d) textured serpentine horned lizard fetish, 1/2” high by 1-7/8” long by 1” wide, SOLD. One of the finest horned toad carvings I have seen.

Lena Boone (d) turquoise medicine bear fetish, 1-1/4” high by 1-3/4” long by 1/2” wide, SOLD. The arrowhead is carved from spiny oyster shell that curves like the bear’s back.

Donovan Laiwakete apple coral wolf fetish, 1” high by 2-1/8” long by 1/2” wide, SOLD. Donovan inlaid a multi-stone heart line and gave this wolf an offering of his distinctively notched arrowhead in turquoise.

Andres Quandelacy (d) wild horse magnesite-hematite wolf fetish, 3/4” high by 1-3/4” long by 3/8” wide, SOLD. Andres inlaid a coral and turquoise heart line on this graceful wolf.

Preston Kaamasee black marble medicine bear fetish, 1-7/8” high by 1-7/8” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. Preston’s work is much rarer than that of cousins Derrick and Elton.

Tyler Quam (d) large pale pink marble wolf fetish, 1-7/8” high by 4-3/4” long by 1” wide, SOLD.  This large wolf has a textured tail and a carved mother-of-pearl arrowhead offering.

Eddington Hannaweeke dolomite mountain lion fetish, 1-1/2” high by 3-1/4” long by 1-1/4” wide, SOLD. Eddie’s arrowhead offering is carved of ivory calcite and faces backward as do those of Jeff Tsalabutie and Leekya Deyuse.

Jayne Quam jet mole directional fetish, 1” high by 2-1/2” long by 1-1/4” wide, SOLD. This mole carries all the other directional protectors on his back, each carved in their cardinal color, and each with a pink mussel shell arrowhead offering. Jayne was known for these directional fetish carvings and her mated animals, but she has since moved on to other artistic endeavors.

Hayes Leekya very large Zuni stone travertine horse fetish, 3-1/2” high by 4-1/2” long by 1-1/2” wide, SOLD. This horse has the typical Hayes etched mane and tail but is the giant economy size, perhaps a draft horse.

Bernard Homer, Jr. (d) turquoise bear fetish, 3/4” high by 2-3/8” long by 1/2” wide, SOLD. Offering is a carved orange spiny oyster shell arrowhead that contrasts perfectly.

Tony Laiwakete Picasso marble wolf fetish, 1” high by 2-1/4” long by 7/8” wide, SOLD. The Laiwakete trademark fancy inlaid heart line is turquoise and coral. Arrowhead offering is pen shell.

Enrike Leekya cream serpentine cat fetish, 2-1/4” high by 2-1/4” long by 1” wide, SOLD. The cat’s collar has a turquoise bead, probably representing a bell to alert backyard birds that the neighborhood terror is approaching.

Lena Boone (d) chrysocolla mole fetish, 7/8” high by 2-1/2” long by 1” wide, SOLD. The chrysocolla has dramatic stripes of black tenorite, and Lena accented the piece with an arrowhead offering carved of gold lip mother-of-pearl.

Freddie Leekya Zuni stone travertine bear fetish eating a pink mussel shell donut, 1-3/4” high by 1-3/4” long by 1-1/4” wide, SOLD. Freddie injects humor into most of his carvings.

Jayne Quam blue angelite bear mates fetish, 3/4” high by 2” long by 1” wide, SOLD. Another of Jayne’s original concepts of life mates, and perfect for engagement or wedding gift.

Orison Owaleon Picasso marble bear with mother-of-pearl fish fetish, 2” high by 2” long by 1-1/2” wide, SOLD. We rarely see work by Orison.

Hayes Leekya textured white marble bear fetish, 1-1/4” high by 2” long by 1” wide, SOLD. Hayes gave this bear a carved coral tongue, a nod to his grandfather Leekya Deyuse who often carved his bears with their tongues tasting the air.

Eddington Hannaweeke Zebra stone marble skunk fetish, 1” high by 1-1/2” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD.  Isn’t he just perfect?

Tyler Quam (d) mother-of-pearl beaver fetish, 1/2” high by 1-1/2” long by 5/8” wide, $80.  Tyler textured the beaver’s tail and carved his front teeth.

Enrike Leekya Pakistani marble elk fetish with carved wooden antlers, 3” high by 3-1/2” long by 3” wide (span of antlers), SOLD. The elk is bugling, the call they make during mating season.  This will be shipped with the antlers separate to avoid breakage.

Andres Quandelacy (d) Afghani travertine bear fetish, 1-1/4” high by 1-3/4” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. This beautiful stone does not photograph well at all! It is smooth and glassy and more deeply colored than it photographs.

Hayes Leekya Zuni stone travertine grazing horse fetish, 1-3/4” high by 2-1/4” long by 3/4” wide, $100. Similar to the horse carvings Hayes does now, with a bit heavier texturing in the mane and tail.
