Zuni Fetishes

Loren Tsalabutie Peruvian blue angelite eagle fetish, 2” high by 2-1/8” long by 1-3/4” wide, SOLD. Angelite is a beautiful stone that is difficult to capture in photos. This one shows some white matrix and red iron markings that add interest to the stone.

Julius Yuselew (d) black marble skunk fetish with sgraffito stripes, 1-1/2” high by 1-3/4” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. This adorable guy has turquoise eyes and incised claws. Skunks are a sure sign of spring, just like robins.

Leroy Chavez (d) textured Picasso marble turtles and pueblo fetish, 1” high by 2” long by 1” wide, SOLD. Mama and baby turtles are guarding a pueblo kiva. 

Edna Leki (d) long turquoise wolf fetish, 3/4” high by 2-5/8” long by 3/8” wide, SOLD. Arrowhead is jet and from the period when Edna lived with her daughter Dinah. Elegant.

Dewey Deysee large raspberry serpentine bear fetish, 2” high by 4” long by 1-3/4” wide, SOLD. This bear has a long snout and extraordinary detailed claws.

Felino Eriacho Picasso marble resting dove fetish, 1” high by 2-1/2” long by 1-1/4” wide, SOLD. There is a natural ring around the dove’s neck. Felino rarely carves birds.

Dee Edaakie Peruvian blue angelite standing bear fetish, 2-1/2” high by 2” long by 1” wide, $220. Dee’s square chunky bears are instantly recognizable.

Justin Red Elk pipestone and pink mussel shell dragonfly fetish, 5/8” high by 2-1/4” long by 2-3/4” wingspan, SOLD. Justin is nephew of Herbert Halate, and, like Herbert, also lost an eye to carving.​

Eldred Quam (d) serpentine wolf fetish, 1-1/4” high by 2-1/2” long by 1/2” wide, $150. Eldred was a revered elder and medicine man, and one of the first tribal members lost in the Pandemic.

Ronnie Lunasee dolomite eagle fetish, 1-1/8” high by 2-5/8” long by 3/4” wide, $120. This is a beautiful piece of dolomite with shades of taupe, cream, and cameo pink.

Emery Eriacho (d) Royston turquoise bear fetish, 1-1/8” high by 1-3/8” long by 3/8” wide, SOLD. With its offering of spiny oyster shell arrowhead, this is a very colorful example of Emery’s work.

Hudson Sandy Picasso marble eagle fetish, 1-3/4” high by 2-3/4” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. Textured feathers. Majestic.

 Kenny Chavez Peruvian blue angelite buffalo fetish, 1-1/8” high by 2-1/4” long by 7/8” wide, SOLD. Kenny textured the mane and gave the buffalo his signature sterling silver eyes.

Saul Yuselew (d) verdite wolf fetish, 1-5/8” high by 2-1/2” long by 3/8” wide, SOLD. Thin, but sturdy. This stone is found in Africa and is a unique shade of green caused by the combining of serpentine and fuchsite.

Orville Lucio peach calcite bear fetish, 1-1/8” high by 2-1/8” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. The offering consists of twin natural turquoise points bound by sinew and heishi.

Loren Tsalabutie lapis otter fetish, 1-3/4” high by 3” long by 1-1/2” wide, $480. Loren won first place in fetish carving (sculpture) at the Heard Museum Indian Fair..

Lorae Lunasee peach alabaster wolf fetish, 1-1/8” high by 2-1/4” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. Lorae gave this wolf a carved turquoise arrowhead for an offering.

Edna Leki (d) Pia Mesa travertine bear fetish, 1-1/2” high by 2-1/4” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. The offering point is tied on with leather a la the 1970s, but I think this carving is ealier than the turquoise wolf above. This bear likely was made when Edna was still living with her father Teddy Weahkee.

Julius Yuselew (d) Picasso marble mountain lion fetish, 1-1/4” high by 4” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. The stripes in this piece of Picasso mimic tiger markings, and the carved turquoise offering is an eagle guide.

​ Gibbs Othole  pipestone eagle fetish atop a denim lapis arrowhead, 1-1/2” high by 2” long by 2” wide, SOLD. The eagle carries a bit of natural turquoise in his claws. Gibbs is always original and imaginative.
