Zuni Fetishes

Bernard Homer, Jr. (d) turquoise bear fetish, 1-1/8” high by 2-1/8” long by 7/8” wide, SOLD. Beautiful turquoise nicely complimented by the pink mussel shell arrowhead offering. One of the loveliest Bernard bears I’ve seen.

Joshua Leki white marble howling coyote fetish, 2-1/4” high by 2” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. Dramatic heart line is inlaid jet with a turquoise point. 

Bremette Epaloose (d) black marble scorpion fetish, 7/8” high by 3-3/8” long by 1-3/4” wide, SOLD. I had one of these in my bathroom sink this week. Yes, this is exactly how they look, and when they notice you they move their stinger. 

Michael Mahooty tiger’s eye coyote fetish, 1-3/4” high by 2-1/2” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. Tiger’s eye is a quartz material and very hard to carve. This piece has lovely bands of fire that cannot be captured by a still camera.

Terrance Martza fishrock serpentine rain frog fetish, 1/2” high by 2-3/8” long by 1-1/2” wide, SOLD. All frogs are regarded as rain-bringers, but Terrance inlaid this guy with clouds and rain drops just to make sure.

Aaron and Thelma Sheche (both d) Picasso marble mountain lion mates fetish, 1” high by 2-1/2” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. Aaron’s elegant carved arrowhead in gold-lip mother-of-pearl is the star of this show.

Leland Boone turquoise mountain lion fetish, 1-1/2” high by 2-1/2” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. The rosy spiny oyster shell arrowhead contrasts beautifully with the green turquoise.

Dilbert Gasper sgraffito black marble bear fetish, 2” high by 3-3/4” long by 1/2” wide, SOLD. This large bear is etched with a heart line and sun face and inlaid with yet another multi-stone sunface and turquoise claws. Fancy!

Burt Awelagte lustrous mother-of-pearl mountain lion fetish, 1-1/2” high by 3-1/2” long by 1/2” wide, SOLD. The curvature of this stone with the tail wrapped to one side has serious cat vibes. The arrowhead is carved turquoise a la Burt’s uncle Gibbs Othole.

Peter Natachu Picasso marble frog and dragonfly fetish, 1-1/4” high by 3-1/4” long by 1-3/4” wide, SOLD. The dragonfly’s wings are tipped with turquoise and his back inlaid with turquoise, coral, jet, and mother-of-pearl. Both critters have compound eyes.

Russell Shack (d) black marble buffalo fetish, 1-1/2” high by 2” long by 3/4” wide, SOLD. Russell was known for his sgraffito on black marble; here he etched the mane and added prayer feathers on the rump, as well as an inlaid turquoise heart line and an abalone shell arrowhead offering. Powerful.

Dee Edaakie sonoran sunrise eagle fetish, 1-7/8” high by 1-1/2” long by 7/8” wide, SOLD. The extended wing gives this carving subtle animation and great stability.

Stewart Quandelacy Baltic amber medicine bear fetish, 1-3/4” high by 2-1/4” long by 1/2” wide, SOLD. Stewart is famous for these six-point heart line medicine bear carvings but we rarely see them in amber.

Emery Boone jet “Chaco” frog fetish, 1/2” high by 2-1/2” long by 2” wide, SOLD. The inlaid turquoise collar mimics a prehistoric frog carving found at Chaco Canyon.

Ed Lementino variscite mountain lion mates fetish, 1” high by 2-1/2” long by 1” wide, SOLD. The color of this variscite is a deep rich green.

Jessie LeBouef alabaster saddled horse fetish, 7/8” high by 2-1/2” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. Jessie is related to Thelma Sheche whose father Theodore Kucate also carved the saddled horse. 

Saul Yuselew (d) turquoise medicine bear fetish, 1-1/2” high by 1-5/8” long by 5/8” wide, SOLD. Eyeless, so one of Saul’s late carvings. Blue bear is the elder of the bear fetishes.
